Reyna Crystalheart

"O Halone, give me the strength of your fury, so that I may carve this sanctimonious bastard to bits"

Sea Wolf Roegadyn
Age: 37
Eyes: Red
Skin: Gray

Born For Battle

From the moment of her birth the woman who would be known as Reyna Crystalheart was taught how to fight and how to kill, for what good was a Sea Wolf pirate who could do neither? Her clan was one of the last to raid the seas freely, many others having fled to the arms of the fledgling Maelstrom as the threat of the Garlean empire loomed. Her father trained her as a worthy successor to himself, a hardened and merciless raider incapable of pity for those whose lives they destroyed, but her succession was not to be.The Garlean empire wanted the seas of Eorzea free of such raiding parties, and they got their chance when the clans were betrayed by one of their own, one of Reyna's kin. In a overwhelming onslaught of magitek monstrosities the last of the Sea Wolf pirate clans were massacred, all but one.Whether by the grace of the Seven or simple blind luck, one Sea Wolf woman washed ashore. Abandoning the life of a raider and her old name, the woman swore vengeance upon her traitorous kin, and saw the Maelstrom as her greatest chance at striking back at the Empire.

A War Eternal

Reyna's prowess in battle served her well, quickly moving her up to the rank of Captain. But fighting off bandits and Sahagin did little to whet her appetite for battle, she desired to lock blades with the Garleans, to shed blood for the deaths of her kin. She got her chance at Carteneau, the site of the desperate defense by the newly founded Eorzean Alliance against the Garleans of the Seventh Legion. The battle was a catastrophe, the only vengeance Reyna found was against terrified conscripts begging for their mothers in a field of mud red with blood. The awakening of Bahamut annihilated both armies and once again Reyna crawled from the battlefield and her dead allies to make a new life. She would not find the vengeance she sought amongst the Maelstrom.Reyna wandered for years as a mercenary, watching the broken world rebuild. In that time she made new allies and bonded herself to a Viera heaker named Kyla. It was the first time that Reyna had ever shared her life with anyone, and she entrusted Kyla with her true name, as well as her true goals. She knew the Empire would return, and perhaps her kin would return with them. She was correct, five years after Carteneau the Fourteenth legion marched on the faltering Grand Alliance, and whispers told of a Sea Wolf spy sowing chaos amongst the Alliances meager defenses. Reyna and Kyla pursued the Woman across Eorzea, abandoning all else even as the Empire suffered several catastrophic defeats. Her trail ended in Ala Mhigo, where the Sea Wolf and her bonded were hired on to assist the grand companies in retaking the fallen city states. The campaign to retake Ala Mhigo was brutal, but Reyna was all too familiar with Garleans and their means of waging war, there was little that suprised her, and with Kyla at her back any injuries she suffered meant little. They did not see the liberation of the capital as they were placed in the rearguard, but once again Reyna heard whispers of the Sea Wolf saboteur, and she followed them too their source, Ghilmyt Dark, the site of Garlemalds retaliatory offensives after the loss of Ala Mhigo. In the shell-battered trenches Reyna finally learned of her kin's location, far into the Garlean frontlines. Not wishing to subject Kyla to the horrors of open warfare Reyna left her bonded with the frontline medics to assist the wounded and fought through the Garlean ranks herself, only to find nothing, no sign of the spy ever having been there, and it was in this moment Reyna realized she had been deceived. Rushing back to the Eorzean positions Reyna found that her worst fears had been realized. Kyla was dead, her throat slit by a unknown Sea Wolf who fled into the trenches. With her bonded dead and the trail gone cold, Reyna gave into her grief. She abandoned the Alliance, hiding in the bottle, making coin by paltry mercenary work and ignoring the world that had taken the one person she ever truly loved. This lasted for months before old allies called for aid, the Bozjan rebellion needed able-bodied warriors, and Reyna owed a old friend a debt for her gunblade training long ago. As the Garlean Empire began to fracture after the death of Emperor Varis it's various legions scattered, and the masterfully hidden imperial spy corps were brought to light. Reyna knew that this was her chance, she would not play into her kin's game again, she would have her vengeance she swore decades ago, whatever the cost.
